The Scottish Cancer Research Network

Cancer in Scotland highlighted that there is significant evidence that outcomes are improved for those patients treated in environments where research is the norm or for those patients who are involved in cancer clinical trials.

In March 2002 the Minister for Health and Community Care announced an additional £1 million to support the development of a Scottish Cancer Research Network (SCRN) whose aim is to at least double patient recruitment into cancer clinical trials.

The SCRN has been fully established since December 2003 and has already succeeded in achieving the target to at least double patient recruitment.
