The Scottish Radiotherapy Advisory Group reports to the Scottish Cancer Taskforce and is chaired by Professor Alan Rodger. Professor Rodger was previously Clinical Director for the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and is now retired.
Remit
- To work with all stakeholders to develop a programme for the implementation of actions identified in Better Cancer Care for the development of a Scottish radiotherapy service and to ensure effective action is taken on all points therein.
- Monitor clinical practice including fractionation, impact of extended hours, capacity constraints and staffing.
- Coordinate developments in radiotherapy technologies and techniques, such as IMRT (intensity modulated radiotherapy) and IGRT (image guided radiotherapy), to ensure equitable access across Scotland.
- Repeat the current review of radiotherapy capacity and demand to ensure adequate planning time if additional equipment capacity is found to be required.
- Determine the immediate and longer-term equipment requirements and the most cost-effective method for its procurement.

Membership
Membership includes clinicians involved in delivering radiotherapy services from the five cancer centres, academia, regional managers and patient representatives.
Representatives from other organisations are invited to meetings on an ad hoc basis according to the agenda.
