nurse and patientEvery year around 27,000 people in Scotland are diagnosed with cancer. This number continues to increase and despite advances in the ability to treat many forms of the disease, cancer remains the leading cause of mortality in Scotland amongst people under the age of 75.

Since the launch of the Scottish Cancer Strategy - Cancer in Scotland: Action for Change - in 2001, significant improvements have been made in the quality of care provided.

A national discussion has been launched to help inform the development of a new action plan to build on past achievements and identify priorities for tackling cancer in the years ahead.
