SMOKING PREVENTION WORKING GROUP
A short-life expert group, chaired by Dr Laurence Gruer, Director of Public Health Science, NHS Health Scotland, to take forward the commitments within 'A Breath of Fresh Air for Scotland' relating to tobacco prevention and education activity at national and local levels.
Remit
Based on action proposed in the Tobacco Action Plan, the remit of the Group is to:-
- scope current national and local activity aimed at preventing smoking among young people in Scotland since 1999
- review the evidence of effectiveness of different approaches to preventing smoking among young people
- identify gaps in our knowledge which require to be filled
- make recommendations to assist the development of a new long-term integrated smoking prevention strategy
- review the evidence base for raising the age for tobacco sales from 16 to 18 years
