Week eight - doing the Moon Walk
Tuesday, April 1, 2003
A couple of days ago I joined MSPs outside parliament to promote this year's Edinburgh MoonWalk - it's a fantastic mass walk in June for breast cancer which involves lots of people (10,000 so far I'm told for this year) marching though Edinburgh in bras!
I'm doing the so-called 'Half Moon' which is just over 13 miles, starting at midnight in Edinburgh's Inverleith Park. It will probably be a 4 hour walk (although I have ambitions of completing it in 3 hours!) so I've been walking as much as I can to prepare for the challenge.
Most weekends I've been out for hour long walks and last Sunday I walked for an hour and a half. It was dry last week too so I walked my daughter to school most mornings and earlier in the week I was in London hot footing it through the tube stations.
I've also been keeping up 15 minute sessions on my exercise bike and during the week I did two sessions while dinner was in the oven, and a longer 30 minute session on Saturday.
It's been just over two months since I took my pledge to keep active. What's struck me is that I look for things that will help to give me a bit of a work-out while carrying on my daily life.
I definitely been walking and using my exercise bike much more and even putting a wee bit more elbow grease into the housework!
So I'm determined to keep this up. I'm signing off now but I wish anyone else who is trying to do the same all the best of luck. You can do it!
