It is important that children and young people learn the value of using up energy on everyday tasks such as walking, lifting and carrying, pushing and pulling.

School grounds

They should be encouraged to respond positively to every opportunity to be active.

There is a common belief that children 'naturally' develop the competence to enjoy being active. Research suggests this is not the case.
