Welcome to the Physical Activity and Health Web pages
In Scotland, only 34 percent of the population are aware of how much physical activity is needed for good health.

The Scottish Executive aims to increase and maintain the proportion of physically active people in Scotland. This why we are setting targets to achieve 50 percent of adults aged over 16 and 80 percent of all children aged 16 and under who meet the minimum recomended levels of physical activity by 2022.
The purpose of this site is to provide you with key information about the Scottish Executive's programme of action to increase the nation's physical activity and the policy behind it.
A wider framework for action to improving the health of the people of Scotland is laid out in Improving Health in Scotland - the Challenge (2003). Improving Health in Scotland: The Challenge provides a policy framework for action to improve the health of all people in Scotland and improve the health of our most disadvantaged communities at a faster rate.
Physical Activity is one of seven special programmes which the challenge focuses upon. The others are healthy eating; smoking; alcohol; mental health and well-being; health and homelessness; and sexual health.
