National Minimum Information Standards for all Adults in Scotland

The Minister for Public Health recently approved implementation of the updated 'National Minimum Information Standards (NMIS)'.

This new version introduces an updated version of the standards for assessment, new standards for shared care and support plans, and for reviews. It also provides a new set of national minimum information standards for carers' assessment and support.

These standards apply to all adult community care groups and are an integral part of the drive to improve outcomes in community care'.

We expect manual systems to incorporate the new standards by March 2009. Electronic systems should do so within 6 months of having the capability to share information electronically. For some partnerships, that will be by March, but if not the early part of 2009-10. Support will be offered to each community care partnership to enable implementation.

Performance Reporting for Community Care 2007/08

The national partnership in community care continues to review their position in order to ensure a good fit with the broader national picture. We are now jointly developing a single community care indicator and to jointly encourage local government to include this in the final set of local indicators, within the single outcome agreement framework.

In relation to performance in 2007/08, we are writing on behalf of the national partnership in community care to advise you of the expectations of local partnerships to report on their joint performance in 2007-08, and to put that in the context of the outcomes developments in the Scottish Government generally.
