Papers Released on 17 June 2008

The Scottish Government is today releasing documents in response to 2 Freedom of Information requests following a decision by the Scottish Information Commissioner. These documents relate to the introduction of the free personal care policy.

Scottish Ministers are fully aware of their responsibilities in relation to the Freedom of Information Act. Where we have applied an exemption we have done so reasonably and responsibly and in line with the Commissioner's decision.

Scope of the Freedom of Information within the 1st requests was for:

  • all minutes and notes of meetings between Scottish Executive Ministers and, or, officials about free personal care, up until June 2001;
  • all correspondence including letters, memos, and emails between Scottish Executive Ministers and, or, officials regarding about free personal care, up until June 2001;
  • all correspondence including letters, memos, and emails from successive Finance Ministers to other Ministers and officials about free personal care; and
  • all financial and statistical documents on the viability or otherwise of free personal care, up until June 2001.

Scope of the Freedom of Information within the 2nd requests was for:

  • all correspondence including letters, memos, and emails between the First Minister and, or, Scottish Executive officials and the UK government on free personal care, up until November 2001.
