National Care Standards and Regulating Care

The Care Standards and Sponsorship Branch is responsible for:

  • Publishing and reviewing the National Care Standards;
  • Policy on regulation of care services; and
  • Providing a link (sponsorship) between the Care Commission and the Scottish Government.

The Care Commission regulates the 15 types of care services set out in the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001.

There are 23 sets of care standards covering the various kinds of care services regulated within the 15 types.
