Cross - Professional Fitness to Practise (CPfTP)
This Group, which is jointly chaired by Dr Aileen Keel, Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Audrey Cowie, Professional Adviser for Regulation and Workforce Standards, is taking forward a number of objectives relating to regulatory policy for the healthcare professions.
The Group met for the seventh time on 11 September 2009, when it was updated on progress in equivalent DH working groups and on other related work, including the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Briatin's plans for the revalidation of pharmacists and the progress of the Nursing and Midwifery Council's plans for the revalidation of nurses and midwives. The group was also updated on progress of the Appraisal Leads Group, which is now examining the information needed for medical appraisal and establishing a standardised set of paperwork for the potential use by all NHSScotland Boards, and on the progress of the Scottish Responsible Officer's Network. It also agreed the Terms of Reference for the Revalidation Delivery Board (Scotland).
A pilot in NHS Highland, supported by SG, in collaboration with the GMC and the Scottish Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, will look at the evidence which would need to be gathered to support appraisal for revalidation purposes. A further pilot in NHS Lothian, a collaboration between the GMC and NCAS, is also progressing, with the aim of developing guidance for a standardised approach to deal with poor performance and referral to the regulatory body. The assocuiated PIN Guidance is being updated and will feed into this work.
The next meeting of the CPfTP group is on 10 March 2010.
