This includes:

  • Supporting the development of implementation arrangements in Scotland for the Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) programme
  • Advising on issues of undergraduate medical education
  • Ensuring that doctors are fit to practice
  • Co-ordinating the sponsorship of NHS Education for Scotland (NES)
  • Developing a commissioning plan for education and training of the healthcare workforce in partnership with NES and others
  • Taking forward the regulation of NHS professions on a phased basis
  • Ensuring appointment of members to the National Panel of Specialists (relevant to consultant appointments) and issues related guidance
