The Mutuality, Equality and Human Rights Board was established primarily to oversee the various mutuality and equality commitments in Better Health Better Care (2007). The majority of these commitments have either been achieved or are ongoing.
At their meeting on 21 October 2010, the Mutuality, Equality and Human Rights Board discussed the new governance arrangements required to support implementation of the Healthcare Quality Strategy for NHSScotland. The Board agreed that these would overlap with the remit of the MEHRB.
The Quality Strategy sets out the drivers for realising the shared aim of delivering the highest quality healthcare services to the people of Scotland. These drivers are framed around the three Quality Ambitions: Safe, Effective and Person Centred care. A Quality Alliance Board has been established to oversee progress on each of the three quality ambitions. It is anticipated that any ongoing issues that were overseen by the Mutuality, Equality and Human Rights Board will be handed on to the Person-Centred delivery arrangements in the first instance, to ensure no loss of momentum in this important work.
