Diversity Task Force

USING THE FORCE.

Wai-yin

The DTF is the national group that measures progress across NHSScotland in relation to the equality and diversity agenda.
We will assist policy makers to position equality and diversity at the heart of decision-making. We will use this diversity management as a key lever for change and successful policy implementation. This will have a positive impact on the delivery of health policy, reduce health inequalities and support achievement of the Staff Governance Standard.

The DTF's specific remit is therefore to:

• inform and support policy development by providing advice to policy leads within the Scottish Executive Health Department and NHSScotland;
• review progress of the delivery of NHSScotland's statutory and policy responsibilities for equality; and
• report on progress to the Chief Executive of NHSScotland, and as appropriate, to the Scottish Partnership Forum (SPF) and the Scottish Workforce and Staff Governance Committee (SWAG).

I recognise that for NHSScotland to continue providing services to its diverse and ageing population it must be able to attract and retain talent from the widest pool available.

By progressing the diversity agenda in NHSScotland, the organisation will enjoy an inclusive environment in which staff, patients and the public feel involved and valued. In this way we will move closer to fulfilling our obligations in respect of Fair for All: The Wider Challenge and implementation of the Staff Governance Standard.

Promoting a diverse and inclusive approach to health is the right thing to do. As an organisation we value diversity and are committed to ensuring equal access to services and employment opportunities.

In my role as Chair I look forward to working with and supporting James Barbour, Chief Executive, leading in diversity. I hope that together with the DTF and James, I will help guide NHSScotland towards achieving the vision of creating a health service which is fair for all.
