Leading the way in Diversity

LEADING THE WAY ON DIVERSITY!

James BarbourTop team leadership is a vital catalyst in helping to change organisational culture. As part of my role as Chief Executive providing leadership on equality and diversity, I will be helping to raise awareness of diversity issues, encouraging individuals working at all levels across NHS Scotland to consider their own attitudes and behaviours.

My aim is to ensure that NHS Scotland has a climate which enables you to fulfil your potential and play an active part in designing and delivering appropriate services for patients and public. To do this I will be working alongside colleagues in each Board and our partner organisations.

I believe that diversity is about every individual in the workplace, and that promoting equality is everyone's responsibility. By taking ownership and actively promoting the diversity agenda in your organisation, you will help ensure that NHS Scotland has an inclusive environment in which staff, patients and the public feel involved and valued.

Diversity Matters provides an excellent forum for you to share good practice with colleagues across NHS Scotland. It offers access to high level support and guidance and will enable you to keep up to speed with the latest developments in the equalities arena.

Through Diversity Matters I will regularly update you on the work that my colleagues and I are taking forward in an effort to promote this important agenda. I encourage you all to take advantage of this opportunity to share your experiences and learn from the good practice that is already happening within your Board and across the organisation.

JAMES BARBOUR
