- Jan 2010 - Mental Health Improvement Game
This is a fun way to learn how the design of processes impacts on the flow of work through a community mental health service. It will help you to see first hand how the design of your processes can result in queues and waiting lists. The game is designed to help clinicians and managers think through the application of demand, capacity and flow improvement theory to community mental health services. At the moment the game is only available through the National Mental Health Collaborative Team, though we will be supporting improvement staff within Boards to run it in the longer term. If you are interested in this game being delivered locally, please contact your local Mental Health Collaborative Programme Manager in the first instance. If you are uncertain who this is, please contact your Regional Manager (insert web link to contact details) and they will put you in contact.
- Dec 2009 - Depression Network - Focus in prescribing event evaluation
The aim of this event was to bring interested parties together nationally to share experiences and learning around key issues relating to the prescribing aspects of this workstream. The agenda for the day included:
• Focus on Improvement Measures
• Focus on Formularies
• Focus on Audit
Feedback from those at the event was very positive and a more detailed write up will be available shortly on the MHC pages at No Delays Scotland together with slides from the presentations http://www.nodelaysscotland.scot.nhs.uk/ImprovementSupport/Pages/MentalHealthCollaborative.aspx.
- Dec 2009 - Antidepressant Formularies
Information from all NHS Boards about their formularies for antidepressant prescribing is available at: http://www.nodelaysscotland.scot.nhs.uk/ImprovementSupport/Pages/MentalHealthCollaborative-Depression.aspx Please note that a number of Boards are currently in the process of reviewing these summaries.
- Dec 2009 - Audit summary from Boards
Several Boards are undertaking audit work to better understand antidepressant prescribing in their areas. Information has been pulled together and is available at http://www.nodelaysscotland.scot.nhs.uk/ImprovementSupport/Pages/MentalHealthCollaborative-Depression.aspx
- Dec 2009 - Releasing Time to Care Mental Health
The first cohort of Releasing Time to Care (RTC) Mental Health training was recently completed with NHS Borders, NHS Forth Valley, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, NHS Lanarkshire, NHS Lothian and NHS Western Isles all taking part.
Initial feedback is very positive from staff regarding implementation of the programme & we aim to feedback in more detail through our quarterly newsletters. The second cohort of training is now taking place and the following Boards are taking part with the aim of rolling out RTC Mental Health in their areas: NHS Borders, NHS Forth Valley, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, NHS Lanarkshire, NHS Lothian and NHS Western Isles, NHS Highland, NHS Tayside and NHS Dumfries and Galloway.
October 2009, we had our 2nd national learning event this year "Working Together to Deliver Improvement" for all stakeholders involved in Mental Health Service Improvement. The aim of the day was to provide a forum for those involved in the work of the Mental Health Collaborative to share their progress locally in delivering improvements against the HEAT target areas. It gave them the opportunity to learn more about tools and techniques that can help services and teams to deliver improved outcomes and an improved experience of using their service. Give an idea about how the work of the Mental Health Collaborative can support Mental Health Services in delivering productivity and efficiency gains. It also provided a networking opportunity where individuals can identify those facing similar issues in other services across Scotland and make links to share learning on an ongoing basis. The feedback from our evaluations was very positive.
We are pleased to announce the roll out of two tools to help services better manage their demand and make the best use of current capacity. IST Mental Health DCAQ Tool and Wiseman Workload Management e -Tool. Both tools are complementary, though each tool can be used independently of the other. Testing of the IST MH DCAQ tool has highlighted that it may need to be customised to your local service set up. The Wiseman Workload Management Tool requires training before use. Therefore access to both tools is through the local MHC Programme Manager who will then liaise with the Regional MHC Teams to agree a plan for roll out. If you are uncertain who your MHC Programme Manager is, check our contacts page to obtain a Regional Managers name from your region.

This is a 'mental health' version of a game that has been successfully used for many years around A&E improvement work. We've worked with the original designer of the game to completely overhaul it for Mental Health. We held a test run of the new Mental Health version and it evaluated extremely well. If you are interested then please contact your local MHC Programme Managers in your Boards as these events are held locally within Boards.
Dates are still available. Please contact your local Mental Health Collaborative Programme Manager at your local Boards.
