National Improvement & Support Programmes 2008 - 2011

"Applying Quality Improvement Science to Performance Challenges".

Welcome to the National Improvement Programmes Home Page!

The Improvement and Support Team (IST) has been running National Improvement Programmes since early 2005. These national programmes are designed to improve patient experience and service delivery.

Our National Improvement Programmes support the delivery of the commitments in " Better Health, Better Care" and refreshed " HEAT Targets".

In addition to learning from the Scottish based programmes (see our 2008 publication " Delivering Better Health, Better Care Through Continuous Improvement: Lessons from the National Programmes"), IST looks outwards to identify the best evidence for service redesign from elsewhere and collaborates with international leaders who pursue and define excellence and quality in healthcare. They include the Institute for Innovation and Improvement, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and the Advisory Board's Council of International Hospitals.

IST's improvement programmes work in an integrated way with the "Scottish Patient Safety Programme" and NHS Scotland's patient experience programme "Better Together".
