Closure of the Central Public Appointments List and the New Register of Interest

With effect from December 2003, the Scottish Government's Public Appointments List has been closed and replaced with a Register of Interest.

The List was a long-standing arrangement which predated many of the recent changes to the public appointments process in Scotland. It contained details of individual CVs which, in the past, were used to match those in the List to specific appointment vacancies and to then approach those so identified with a view to securing an application. The advent of the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland's Code of Practice has meant, however, that all appointment vacancies require to be publicised and, as a result, the List has come to be regarded as obsolescent.

This decline in the use of the List has led the Scottish Government to conclude that it is no longer an effective way of meeting the needs of people who wish to become involved in public life. It has therefore been closed and replaced with a Register of Interest which will log the names and contact details of members of the public interested in appointment and thereby allow the Scottish Government's Public Appointments Team to mail them a list of forthcoming vacancies once a quarter. Using this information, they can subsequently obtain information packs and, if interested, make an application in the normal way.

If you are interested in adding your name to the Register, please complete the registration form below.

  • This is in the form of a Word Document which can be filled in by hand or on your computer and then sent to us at the address shown on the Form. You can if you wish email the form to public.appointments@scotland.gsi.gov.uk, but you will still have to print and send a hard copy with your signature.

If you have any queries about the Register and how it works, please contact the Public Appointments Team on freephone 0800 015 8449.
