Working Group

After careful consideration of the recommendations made to them as a result of the review of Community Councils, Scottish Ministers decided to form a short life Working Group to take forward this work. The first meeting of the Working Group was held on Tuesday 8 May 2007.

Remit

The agreed remit of the Working Group is to take forward key recommendations arising from the review of community councils focussing on the following 3 outcomes:

Produce a Model Community Council Scheme for Local Authorities;
Produce Good Practice Guidance for both Community Councils and Local Authorities;
Produce a Code of Conduct for Community Councillors.

Following the election of the new Government in May 2007, the Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth asked the Working Group to examine potential expanded roles and responsibilities which could be undertaken by Community Councils.

Meetings

The papers from each meeting will be published shortly after the meeting in question and the minutes from each meeting will be published once agreed by the Working Group.
