There are 32 directly elected local authorities in Scotland which provide local services and receive a large part of their funding from the Government.

Advise Scottish Ministers on salaries (including pensions), allowances and reimbursement of expenses paid to Local Authority Members in Scotland
Including local income tax, council tax, non domestic rates and general local authority finance and accounting issues.
Maintaining high standards of behaviour of local authority councillors and members of public bodies.
Helping to express the views of the community to local authorities and other public bodies.
