The structure and precise role of any Sentencing Council is currently under consideration. We intend to consult on draft proposals in the next few months. This may in time lead to the establishment a new statutory body, but final decisions are yet to be taken.

Merging Careers Scotland; SufI; skills and training functions of Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise to create a new organisation, expected to be in place by April 2008.

Vetting and Barring Agency

Remit

To deliver the vetting and barring scheme for the children and protected adults workforce and encompassing Disclosure Scotland.

What is proposed

The Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 established provisions for a vetting and barring scheme for those working with children and vulnerable adults. The new agency will replace Disclosure Scotland.
