Introduction

The Telecoms strategy addresses not only immediate opportunities available to the Scottish public sector through collaborative procurement, but also reviews the longer term options. This focuses on stakeholder, market and technology changes which may impact the way products and services and offered and procured. It is envisaged that there will be additional convergence in the market and technology which increase the need for Technology Solutions rather than commodity based procurements. Examples of this include:

  • Fixed/Mobile Convergence
  • Managed Voice Services
  • Hardware, Software and Implementation Services.

Procurement Scotland are working with various policy groups, as well as Buying Solutions and other UK government bodies, to maintain visibility of this key transition process and to support the development of new requirements.

Stakeholder Workshops

Procurement Scotland hosted a series of cross sector stakeholder workshops during September and October 2009. The workshops were informal and highly interactive, with clear objectives including:

  • Agreeing a generic specification
  • Presenting a Technology Solutions Roadmap
  • Sharing learning and best practice
  • Discussing potential sourcing approaches
  • Developing a catalogue of products and services

A further workshop took place in December 2009 to further refine and clarify the stakeholder requirements.

Supplier Events

Procurement Scotland plan to engage with the market to review the opportunities available. Further information on this process will be available on the Procurement Scotland website soon.
