Definitions of Category A, B and C are detailed below as defined by the Review of Public Procurement in Scotland (published in March 2006). A snapshot of how these contracts interrelate is contained in Public Sector Procurement Vision. These groupings define how and by whom contracts are established.
Category A
Contracts awarded by Procurement Scotland on a national basis for the public sector in Scotland. These contracts are for goods and services are standard or of a similar nature across the largely common requirements of users in the public sector in Scotland.
Category B
Contracts awarded by CGCoPE on a sectoral basis for bodies within the central government sector. This includes a broad range of sector specific contracts and arrangements designed to optimise benefits, savings and efficiencies for the Scottish Government, its Agencies and Non-Departmental Public Bodies.
Category C
Contracts awarded on an basis by and for the Scottish Government. These contracts are non-collaborative, and tend to be specialist or unique in nature.
