LTS International were commissioned by the Scottish Government in 2008 to carry out a scoping study to assess the feasibility of developing a Scholarship Scheme in Sub Saharan Africa. The final report has now been published and is now available.
LTS International reviewed the higher education systems that are currently in place in Sub-Saharan Africa and identified and appraised potential options for suitable mechanisms for the development of a specifically Scottish Scholarship Scheme with a focus on undergraduate study, the inclusion of women and those in remote and rural areas.
Further work is being undertaken by the Open University to explore options in Malawi. Final decisions as to whether a scheme will be set up will be made by Scottish Ministers in 2009.
