Sub Saharan Africa Development Programme Funding Allocations
RWANDA
CONCERN WORLDWIDE will be working with their partners in Rwanda (World Relief Rwanda and International Rescue Committee Rwanda) to reduce the morbidity and mortality of children under five with acute malnutrition. They will do this by increasing the provision of community-based approaches focussing on the most vulnerable children. They will work to increase early detection and develop approaches to case management. The programme will also involve work to develop the capacity of district health offices and to influence a national model for addressing acute malnutrition including HIV screening. Concern will be working with well-established partners on the ground and have their own strong track record in this type of work, building on a successful programme currently operating in Malawi, supported by the Scottish Government.

SUDAN
TEARFUND will integrate food security, nutrition and public health to deliver a holistic solution for meeting the basic needs of local and displaced people in the Ed Daein region of Darfur. It will identify and reduce mortality among malnourished children through supplementary feeding in the community, or in the case of severe cases through admittance to an already established stabilisation centre. It will address issues of food security, supporting agricultural practice and the development of kitchen gardens in Internally Displaced People (IDP) camps. It will look to maximise the yield of crops without damaging the local environment, and provide training through the use of a 'model' vegetable garden. The programme will also work to improve water and sanitation facilities, particularly in IDP camps, and as part of this will develop a health education programme delivered weekly by trained facilitators in schools and health clubs in camps and communities.

TANZANIA
OPPORTUNITY INTERNATIONAL will increase access to financial services for the poorer members of society, particularly those who are normally excluded from formal financial services. Opportunity International will work with Opportunity Tanzania to increase access by targeting around 10,000 households. Offices will be established in urban areas and their immediate outskirts, as well as operating a number of outreach services to the more remote areas. These services will provide opportunities for poor people to transform their lives by creating jobs, reducing vulnerability, stimulating small businesses and strengthening communities. This work includes strong elements of capacity building within Tanzania, as well as encouraging south-to-south learning, particularly with their programmes in Malawi and Uganda.

ZAMBIA
SCOTTISH CATHOLIC INTERNATIONAL AID FUND (SCIAF) will work with partners in Zambia to support improved food security and household incomes whilst working with communities to build their resilience to climate change. The project has the potential to deliver real benefit to a significant number (about 10,000) smallholder farming families. The programme will focus on working with marginalised rural communities and involve providing training and support to small-scale farmers to develop organic farming methodologies and conservation farming techniques to improve the long-term success of rural smallholders. The programme directly addresses the Zambian Government's stated priorities for development in the coming years.
