Scotland Malawi Advisory Group (SMAG)

Remit of the Group

Purpose

  • To provide a forum for the Minister for Culture, External Affairs and the Constitution, Michael Russell to discuss the Scottish Government's Malawi Development Programme through in depth discussions drawing on the experience, knowledge and interest of this Group.
  • To focus discussions on the 4 cross cutting themes in our Malawi policy:
  • Vocational Training and Education
  • Gender and Equality
  • Enterprise Development
  • Enhanced Human Rights and Civil Society Development
  • To provide an opportunity for information exchange on Scottish activity relating to Malawi and to advise the Minister on developments in Malawi.

Frequency

  • The Group will meet once every six months within the Joint Commission cycle and be supported by email discussions between meetings.
  • Further meetings may be required in addition to the six monthly cycle if particular issues arise.
