Joint Commission

On 3 November 2005 the then First Minister, Rt. Hon Jack McConnell MSP and His Excellency Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi signed a Co-operation Agreement that outlines key areas in which Scotland and Malawi will work together. The Agreement focuses on the key areas of:

  • Civic Governance and Society
  • Sustainable Economic Development
  • Health
  • Education

It was agreed with the Malawian Government that a Joint Commission be established and meet to oversee the implementation of the Co-operation Agreement with Ministerial and senior official representation from both countries.

Five meetings have taken place to date.
