Situated in the northeast of China, Liaoning occupies a strategic position, straddling the Yellow Sea, the Bohai Gulf, and the Yalu River. The province is China's closest gateway to the Korean Peninsula. Liaoning was one of the first provinces in China to industrialize. In recent years it has become a popular spot for Chinese tourists.
