Situated on China's north eastern coast, Hebei surrounds both Beijing and Tianjin. Hebei has industrial and historical significance and due to its proximity to Beijing, is one of China's more developed provinces. In addition to the Great wall, which cuts across Hebei's steep mountains to the north, the province is home to Chengde, a Mountain Resort that used to be the largest royal summer resort of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
