Fujian is located in south east China, along the Taiwan Straits. As a coastal province, Fujian has historically been open to trade. More recently Fujian has pursued a programme of intense economic development creating special economic zones and offering flexible measures to attract investment and business from all over the world. As a result Fujian is today one of China's most vibrant and prosperous provinces. It is also home for many overseas Chinese: it is estimated that there are about 8 million overseas Chinese around the world of Fujianese origin.
