Linda Fabiani, Minister for Europe, attended a meeting of the Scottish Parliament's European and External Relations Committee to give an update on progress on and changes to the EU priorities, as agreed by Cabinet in September 2008 following the latest six monthly review.

Europa Institute: "An Energy Policy for Europe"

Minister for Energy, Jim Mather, took part in a seminar hosted by the Europa Institute on European energy policy and the challenges and opportunities this brings to Scotland. Professor Peter Cameron, a widely respected expert on the issue, presented his discussion paper "Scotland, Europe and its Energy Policy" with further presentations from academic, European Parliament and Scottish Government representatives, covering the main challenges that Europe faces in the drive to develop a clean, commercially viable and secure means of energy for the future. Following discussions Mr Mather addressed the audience at the close of the seminar.

CSPP event: "European Reform: Scotland's Role and Opportunities"

The Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Culture, Linda Fabiani, spoke at an event organised by the Centre for Scottish Public Policy. Following a number of speakers, including UK Minister for Europe Jim Murphy and Des Clifford, Head of the Welsh Assembly EU Office, the Minister spoke on 'Maximising the effectiveness of Scotland's representatives in European institutions and policy making'.

Launch of Action Plan on European Engagement

On Wednesday morning Ms Linda Fabiani, Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Culture, hosted a stakeholder event in Edinburgh to officially launch the draft Action Plan on European Engagement. The event kicked off the discussion on the Action Plan which will allow stakeholders to have their say on the Government's approach to European affairs before the Plan is finalised at the end of the year. The Minister discussed the policy thinking behind the Action Plan while Michael Aron, Director of the Scottish Government's EU Office, discussed the content in more detail. Stakeholders had the opportunity to put questions to both Ms Fabiani and Mr Aron, resulting in an interesting and constructive session.

Minister for Europe presents International Framework and Action Plan on European Engagement to European and External Relations Committee

Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Culture, Linda Fabiani, attended a meeting of the Scottish Parliament's European and External Relations Committee to present the Scottish Government's International Framework. The published draft Action Plan on European Engagement was also discussed. The minister explained that the Action Plan complements the International Framework and that both documents set out the Government's strategic approach to international and European affairs.

The First Minister brought the national conversation on Scotland's constitutional future to Scotland House in Brussels, hosting a popular seminar on Scotland's options in Europe. It provided Scots in Brussels with the ideal occasion to engage the First Minister in a lively discussion.

Minister for Europe speaks at an international conference marking the fiftieth anniversary of the Treaty of Rome

Minister for Europe, Ms Linda Fabiani, participated in a one day conference held by the Europa Institute (Edinburgh University) on The Treaty of Rome, the European Parliament and the Regions and Substate Nations of the European Union. As Minister for Europe , Ms Fabiani spoke on the topic of Scotland on Europe.
