MINISTERIAL ATTENDANCE AT EU COUNCILS

Mr Lochhead at EU CouncilThe Government's goal to ensure that Scotland's voice is heard in Europe on issues that are of particular importance to it is central to Ministers' interaction with the EU.

While officials based in Brussels constantly monitor events in the EU institutions, Scottish Ministers have an important role to play in ensuring that Scotland's profile and interests are raised in Europe at the highest levels.

In the areas of priority importance to Scotland, Scottish Ministers strive to attend EU Council meetings alongside their UK counterparts. This gives Ministers the opportunity to ensure that Scotland's interests are being put forward directly into negotiations and that it's position is fully understood.

This section gives details of EU Councils attended by this Government since the elections of May 2007.
