STRENGTHENING SCOTLAND'S VOICE IN THE HEART OF EUROPE
The European Commission is responsible for considering the interests of the EU as a whole and proposing legislation on this basis. This Government's manifesto committment to strengthen Scotland's voice in Europe starts here - ensuring that Scotland's interests are put forward in the very initial discussions on formulating proposals.
The Action Plan on European Engagement sets out the Government's committment to responding directly to Commission consultations, unless there is a good reason not to do so. While we will continue to be involved in the formulation of the UK's response, a separate Scottish response allows this Government to expand on Scotland's particular interests and stance on the issue being discussed.
