Amnesty Days

[ The 3 R's | Top 5 Waste Tips | Water Conservation | Green Procurement | Amnesty Days ]

Amnesty Days are about reducing the volumes of unwanted items throughout the building. It is also an opportunity to raise environmental awareness and to enable staff to play an active role in reducing an organisation's overall impact on the environment.

Amnesty Days are held periodically across the Scottish Government estate to give all staff a chance to clear cupboards and desks of miscellaneous office products (such as folders, periodicals, manuals, and handbooks), as well as electronic equipment (dictaphones, calculators, etc.) that are surplus to requirements. These items are then sorted into categories for recycling or redistribution within the office or for redistribution to voluntary organisations for further use.

Why Bother?

There are obvious benefits to taking part in Amnesty Days:

Environmental

Reduced waste taken to landfill sites.

Health & Safety

Reduced safety risks in the workplace by eliminating overloading of floor areas and storage capacities.

Functional

Valuable storage space is freed for other alternative use.

A guide is available to show you how to arrange and hold an amnesty, and suggestions of whom to contact.
