Resource Use

Resource use is a key issue that is important to every member of staff in the Scottish Government. We are all responsible for managing resources either directly, in our normal working routines (paper, water, electricity, stationery, etc.), or indirectly through the policies we implement.

We can:

  • minimise waste by reduction, reuse, repair and recycling methods;
  • conserve resources through better working practices and buying goods produced from recycled and sustainably managed sources;
  • reduce the use of hazardous and polluting substances; and
  • ensure disposal in the most environmentally preferable method.

Put simply, the fewer resources we use and the more we can recycle, the easier the burden on the environment will be.
