This initial assessment of policies to reduce Scotland's emissions was commissioned by the Scottish Government and prepared by AEA. It is based on a literature review of published research across key sectors including energy generation, transport and land use, together with a number of discussions with informed external specialists in specific areas of climate change policy. The analysis looks ahead to 2050 and tries to identify those areas of activity that have the potential to deliver significant and cost effective greenhouse gas emissions savings. The report also considers issues of feasibility and public acceptability.

October 2008
The David Hume Institute project gathered contributions from 16 leading experts asked to consider what Scotland would be like in the year 2050 if emissions reduction targets were met - and consider how they may have been achieved. A public seminar, supported by the Scottish Government, presented the reports.
