As part of the UK - Scotland supports the European Union action on climate change.

This action includes:

• The EU Member States, as signatories of the Kyoto Protocol, collectively agreed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 8 per cent between 2008 and 2012. The UK share of this collective target is an emissions reduction of 12.5 per cent.
• As part of the Kyoto Protocol EU Member States commit to regulate the production of fluorinated gases (F-Gases).
• In 2007, all EU Member States in a historic agreement agreed to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent by 2020.
• Implementation of the European Union - Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS)
• Responding to the European Union - Green Paper: Adapting to Climate Change

In March 2011, Scottish Ministers wrote to the Climate Action Commissioner about the international low carbon economy.
