THE LOW CARBON MISSION
Scotland's targets for reducing carbon emissions are among the most ambitious in the world. We're aiming to cut an unprecedented amount of greenhouse gases over the next ten years at the same time as promoting sustainable economic growth.
Taking place on Monday December 14, 2009 in Mogens Dahl Koncersal in the south of Copenhagen, only three Metro stops from the UN conference at the Bella Centre, The Low Carbon Mission is Scotland's world-class event on its world-leading climate change framework. The event is free and open to all - if you know in advance you plan to attend, please register your interest at climate.change@scotland.gsi.gov.uk.
The day will be facilitated by John Sturrock QC, founder and Chief Executive of Core Solutions Group. There will also be researchers from Strathclyde University talking to delegates on the day - Professor Bob Kalin, Dr Janey Andrews, Dr Gima Zaldawie. In addition Dave Gorman and Rebecca Walker from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency will blog/twitter from the event.
Led by Stewart Stevenson MSP, Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change, the panel will consider:
- Their views of the Scottish framework
- How it impacts their sector
- The international influence of Scotland's climate change ambition
13:00 Networking lunch
Introduced by Stewart Stevenson and featuring Ian Marchant, Chief Executive of Scottish and Southern Energy and Jane Wood, Chief Executive of Scottish Business in the Community and the May Day Network in Scotland, the panel will offer their perspectives on the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Introduced by Stewart Stevenson and led by Conor Snowdon, British Council, this seminar will also feature contributions from Mary Robinson, the former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Professor Alan Miller, Chair of the Scottish Human Rights Commission, and Duncan McLaren, Chief Executive of Friends of the Earth Scotland.
