2013 Colonsay black bee consultation

Between 5 February and 19 April 2013 the Scottish Government sought views on the creation of a protected area for Apis mellifera mellifera encompassing Colonsay and Oronsay using the powers contained in the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Available below is the original proposal (on which views were sought), a copy of the responses received and a report summarising the responses received.

The Scottish Government concluded that a ban on keeping of non-Amm honey bees on Colonsay and Oronsay should be put in place, according to the terms of the original proposal.

The Bee Keeping (Colonsay and Oronsay) Order 2013 was laid before Parliament on 26 September 2013 and comes into force on 1 January 2014.
