Mapping Sub-Group

Introduction

NTAG recognises the importance of having good quality data to assess potential flood risks. The Mapping and Hydrometric Issues Sub-Group was set up to offer advice to SEPA on the preparation of the Second Generation Flood Map and also to discuss the quality of hydrometric data in Scotland.

The Members

Scottish Executive members - Alan Burdekin, David Seaman and Helen Wood.

Non-Scottish Executive members - Tim Jolley (SEPA)- Chair, Andrew Black (University of Dundee), Sebastian Catovsky (ABI), John Riddell (Independent Consultant), David Murphy (Environment Agency), Carolyn Warwick (SNH) and Peter Bolton (Independent Consultant).

The Work of the Group

The sub-group met three times.

The Sub-Group has:

  • Advised SEPA on the production of the Second Generation Flood Map and been kept up to date with the progress being made and;
  • Considered the recommnedations made by Dr Andrew Black, University of Dundee, in his review of the Hydrometric Network in Scotland

The Sub-Group reported to NTAG on 23rd September 2004.

Relevant Information

The Environment Agency published its new Flood Map on October 7, 2004, as part of its flood risk strategy for England and Wales.

SEPA provides flood risk information for Scotland through Floodline.
