Awareness and Assistance Sub-committee - the Executive aims to raise awareness of flooding issues and is committed to assisting and supporting people affected by flooding. In particular, the Executive aims to increase the take up of home insurance, especially in the social rent sector
Avoidance Sub-Committee - publishing planning guidelines (Scottish Planning Policy 7, SPP7), which discourage unnecessary development in areas prone to flood risk
Alleviation Sub-Committee - providing local authorities with financial assistance in preparing flood prevention schemes. The Executive has pledged £89 million of grant to local authorities, over the period 2005-2008, to build schemes. The Executive has also raised the level of grant to local authorities from 50 per cent of eligible costs to 80 per cent.
