Aberdeen City Council £23,000 over two years to hold a conference on sustainable procurement in the Aberdeen area which will inform both public and private sector bodies of the benefits and practicalities of adopting a green purchasing strategy.

BTCV Scotland £120,000 over three years to raise awareness of biodiversity and carry out practical improvements in disadvantaged urban areas throughout Scotland.

Eco-Congregations £119,988 over three years to further expand their work with churches to develop sustainable practices and teach church members about environmental issues, supporting two part-time project officers.

Friends of the Earth Scotland £119,400 over three years to work with local communities affected by an accumulation of environmentally damaging operations to inform them of ways to become more involved in the planning process. This helps to deliver a key element of the Scottish Executive's environmental justice aims by increasing the involvement of communities in the processes and decisions which affect the quality of the environment in which they live.

Public Sector Sustainable Construction Forum £4,000 over three years to take forward the exchange of information and sustainability initiatives in public sector construction.

Papillon Promotions £5,000 to support a conference and Scottish nappy network development promoting the use of reusable nappies instead of disposable.

WWF Scotland Ecological Footprints £99,000 over three years, assisting a Local Authority Ecological Footprint project to increase understanding about the local and global impact of consumption and to inform decisions to reduce that impact. This was piloted in two Local Authority areas.


Additional grants offered to bodies who could use it within the financial year 2003-04 - extending existing work to secure more valuable outputs:

BTCV Scotland £50,300 - for additional work based on feedback from year 1 of the grant for 2003-06, in Wester Hailes, Craigmillar, Prestonpans, Drumchapel, Pollokshields and East Kilbride.

Business Environment Partnership £40,000 - to continue the Success and Sustainability project promoting sustainable development to small and medium enterprises. This includes working up a Business Guide and publicising it, and working with another 10 companies, more widely across Scotland.

Business Council for Sustainable Development £22,500 - to assist BCSD to expand its operations in Scotland to support the sustainable development agenda, in particular in the business sector.

Papillon Promotions £4,990 - following the conference held to encourage the use of reusable nappies, to allow additional work including a newsletter, a nappy information line and development of the idea of a Scottish Nappy Network, leading up to a further conference in March 2004.

Public Sector Sustainable Construction Forum £2,000 - to allow further work promoting best practice in the use of sustainable materials, reduction in waste and increase in recycling, contributing to energy efficiency and improvement of the environment. The work includes a website to enable members to access information on initiatives.

WWF Scotland £31,000 - the addition of an Ecological Footprint education project and software package to the WWF Local Authority Ecological Footprint project. This complemented the Eco schools programme and other sustainable development education initiatives. A software tool was to be created for Scottish local authorities to measure ecological footprint and use the analysis to inform decisions on planning, purchasing, transport, waste, energy, food, etc.
