Leslie Community Council received a Community
Environmental Renewal Grant of £3,900 for footpath
improvement work. This is close to an operational sand and
gravel quarry.
The need was to carry out work on an existing footpath
and construct a new path with concrete steps and handrail
to provide a circular route around the Back Braes.
The area slopes steeply from the back of houses on the
edge of the town, adjacent to football pitches, a play park
and a golf course.
The paths were narrow and overgrown, without formal
steps - just tracks leading down the slope. The project
specification benefited from technical input from Fife
Council staff who also supervised work on site. Additional
funding was also obtained from other sources.
The path is now broader, with the east-west stretch
wheelchair and buggy-friendly. Fife Council took on the
path maintenance to ensure future benefit from the
work.
