School College Partnerships are agreements which allow school pupils to undertake short or medium length practical or vocational courses, usually within a local college, as part of their school curriculum.
The principles and policy strategy behind these partnerships are set out in the 2005 Lifelong Partners Strategy. Increasingly, these partnerships are also being seen as a key means to help support the implementation of Curriculum for Excellence which includes the entitlement that all young people experience skills for learning, life and work. They also assist in helping school pupils make later decisions on their post 16 learning choices.
All 32 local authorities now have a partnership in place with at least one college; most colleges have partnerships with two or more local authorities.
Partnership activities are planned and funded jointly by the colleges and the local authorities, based on available budgets, national priorities and local learner needs.
