Meetings with College Principals

During the early stages of the Review, the Review Team visited 14 colleges across the length and breadth of Scotland. These colleges were:

Ø West Lothian College

Ø Aberdeen College

Ø Banff and Buchan College

Ø South Lanarkshire College

Ø Motherwell College

Ø Dundee College

Ø Forth Valley College

Ø James Watt College

Ø Glasgow Metropolitan College

Ø Elmwood College

Ø Dumfries and Galloway College

Ø Barony College

Ø Jewel and Esk Valley College

Ø Anniesland College

At these meetings principals, and in some instances senior management, provided their initial thoughts on how the review team should approach the four workstreams and suggested key stakeholders who could help identify the difference colleges make. These meetings were extremely helpful to the review team in developing ideas for taking the review forward and in identifying some of the key challenges and opportunities for the sector.

Open Space Futures Events - May 2006

At the beginning of May, the Scottish Executive ran two open space events on the long-term future of further and higher education provision in Scotland. These two events were designed to inform the Review of Scotlands' Colleges and the HE Futures project. Participants at the first event were largely drawn from those working in and for the two sectors, while the second event was focussed on those from outside the sectors, but with an interest in their future direction.

Both events were very informal with participants devising the agenda themselves and participants expressing their views on the relative priority of issues identified during the day, through a simple voting system. The attached papers are an unedited summary of the issues identified and the votes attracted by each.
