Promoting equal opportunities is important to ensure that all Scotland's young people benefit from learning. Every pupil should be able to achieve their full potential. No pupils should be disadvantaged because of disability, race, religion or background.
The Government and Learning & Teaching Scotland, in co-operation with local authorities and schools, are taking forward a number of initiatives to promote equality and inclusion, tackle racism and discrimination. They will also help with the implementation of equality legislation, such as the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000, Disability Discrimination Act 2005 and the Equality Act 2006.
