Schools of Ambition
Schools of Ambition are:
- ambitious for their pupils and local communities
- at the cutting edge of change, driving education forward to prepare Scotland's young people for life
- stretching, challenging and inspiring their pupils, and helping them realise their full potential
There are already 52 Schools of Ambition on the National Programme. These schools have demonstrated the vision and drive to transform their performance for the long-term benefit of pupils and the wider community. They are a mix of already high performing schools wanting to reach even higher, those that need to improve after poor inspection reports, and those that recognise they can move their performance up several gears. In addition there are 6 partnership schools between the Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and the Hunter Foundation focusing on young people who could benefit from having more choices and chances.
Headteachers at these schools receive at least £300,000 in extra funding to meet their plans for improving performance and setting new national standards. They are expected to share their experiences and successes with other schools so that the whole education system benefits.
