In January 2009, the Education Secretary announced the schools to go greener initiative with a package of measures to help local authorities work towards a lower carbon school estate. This includes the creation of a 'one-stop-shop' source of information, the knowledge base, which will be hosted on the school estate website and act as an authoritative source of advice and guidance on creating a sustainable school estate. The knowledge base will be developed by the Government, in conjunction with experts from local authorities and other relevant organisations, and launched by the end of the year.
In support of this initiative a series of events, including seminars, workshops and study visits, will be held over the coming months for those involved in the planning, design, procurement, construction and maintenance of the school estate. The first event was held on March 25, 2009.
