Based in the centre of Scotland, North Lanarkshire has a population of around 323,780 and has an area of 470 square kilometres. There are 163 publicly funded schools, including 127 primaries, 25 secondaries and 11 special schools. 49,402 pupils attend these schools, including 27,020 primary pupils, 21,597 secondary pupils and 785 special needs pupils.
