Inverclyde Academy

General Introduction to Project

InverclydeInverclyde Council's aim was to provide a modern, sustainable, flexible and well equipped school with excellent internal environmental conditions. The new school consolidates the former Wellington Academy and Greenock High School onto one campus on the site of existing Ravenscraig blaes football pitches adjacent to the Inverkip Road and an athletics stadium.

This was the first new secondary school to be built by Inverclyde Council for a number of years and officials were committed to producing a landmark campus that would also act as an exemplar to inform the design of subsequent schools. The Council were determined that the campus would be a positive statement to all Inverclyde residents about the value placed on Education.

The school is included as a case study due to its many sustainable and distinctive features and the extensive consultation process carried out by the authority and design team which undoubtedly added value to the final design.
